Universal Stables headed to the 2019 SHCQ Horseland & Barastoc Horse of the year held at the Queensland State Equestrian Centre In Caboolture over the weekend 4th - 6th October.
With a mixed team of Hunters & Opens it was to be a busy weekend with fabulous results.
CHILDS
Grace Berry took up the jockey duties for our 2 Child’s classes doing a super job on Mel Waller’s beautiful black Hunter Hack ‘Rueben Star’ earning Runner Up Child’s Hunter Hack and delighting the judges with her ride on Munce Racing’s beautiful bay Thoroughbred ‘‘Mestalla’ for a win and the flowers in the Child’s Open Hack.
OPENS
The littlest on the team ‘Braeburn Heavenly Soprano’ with Adam in the Saddle strutted her little hooves for Runner Up in the Small Open Pony. Emma Barkla’s Newcomer ‘Whitmere Heavens Sent’ performed a perfect workout in a popular and competitive class for large ponies earning a top 5.
Michelle Harpleys Merivale Park Royal Doulton’ put on a super display and big trots to earn Runner Up Large Galloway with Rhys on board. This combination went on to win the Open Gala and the flowers later in the day. Louise Barton’s Kolbeach Sunrise also working perfectly for a top 5 in the large Open Galloway.
Always a large class is the Small Open Hacks and Barbara’s Bars Billy Cruze Being a good boy for top 5. Phil rode Leigh Sears Miss Indiana to impress the judges and awarded the Champion Small Open Hack.
The Large hacks was a tough class with Universal taking out Champion & Runner Up with Peter Strehlau’s ‘The Black’ winning the flowers and Munce Racings ‘Mestalla’ Runner Up.
HUNTERS
National Velvet owned by Nina Stone and Ridden by Riley are proving to be consistent performers earning Runner Up Large Hunter Galloway.
The big guns ‘The Large Hunter Hacks’ is always an exciting class to watch and Universal didn’t disappoint with Rhys Riding Rebecca Crane’s big grey, ‘AATC Crackerjack’ for the flowers and Phil aboard Mel Waller’s beautiful black ‘Rueben Star’ for Runner Up.
RIDERS
What a thrill for Universal Stables to win 4 of the Rider Class Events. Grace Berry Riding Calvin Park Dark Knight for the win in Rider 15 & Under 17. Riley Kent on his own Wanted DD for a win in the rider 17 & Under 21. Rhys Stanley Riding Monique Butchart’s ‘Knightsbridge’ Champion Rider 21 & Under 30 & Mel Waller Riding her Rueben Star for a win in the Rider 30 years & Over.
